Research on Technology for Efficient Use of Large-Scale Multimedia Information (Green Innovation)

Summary

Information technology (IT) has become an essential foundation of modern society; however, many different kinds of information are increasing rapidly by means of multimedia information (text/voice/image/video information, etc.), and a problem called the “information explosion” has arisen. Therefore, an important issue globally is establishing technology for the efficient use of large-scale information. This key research covers individual subjects centering on technology for analyzing multimedia information and extracting/categorizing useful information, including vector space information retrieval models, artificial intelligence and intelligent software engineering, analysis technology for nonverbal information using signal processing and image processing, techniques for analyzing and retrieving information according to purpose such as medicine/distribution/academia/education/public sector, reduction of environmental impact using cloud systems, application to Internet search engines and Web environments, and application to information retrieval from mobile terminals. As well as promoting the improvement of quality of multimedia information, this research could reduce environmental impact by means such as decreasing information technology devices, and so could contribute to green information and communication technology (ICT).
